Bagster’s Daily Light: It is good for me to draw near to God.

September 24, 2012 – Monday Morning: It is good for me to draw near to God.

But for me it is good to be near God; I have made the Lord GOD my refuge, that I may tell of all your works. 1

O LORD, I love the habitation of your house and the place where your glory dwells. 2

For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness. 3

Blessed is the one you choose and bring near, to dwell in your courts! We shall be satisfied with the goodness of your house, the holiness of your temple! 4

The LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. 5

Therefore the LORD waits to be gracious to you, and therefore he exalts himself to show mercy to you. For the LORD is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for him. 6

Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 7

Last day of the ILC world conference

After yesterday’s elections of the new executive committee with Bishop H-J. Voigt (SELK) being re-elected as chairman and Rev. G. von Hattem (Belgium) as secretary most of the business of the conference was finished in good time.

At the banquet Ed Lehman from the Lutheran Church in Canada honoured Sam Nafzger, who had served the ILC for decades.

Today Ralph Mayan is to install the new committee and then we are on our way home, while the executive is going to finish off outstanding business.

It was a nice time here in St. Catherines, but it’s high time to get back home.

“We believe … the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting”

The 16th Sunday after Trinity has the watchword from St. Paul’s 2nd letter to Timothy in the 1st chapter: “Our Savior, Christ Jesus has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.” (2Ti 1:10 NIV)

The order of the divine service in isiZulu (wz1246120923 n Tr 16) and seTswana (wt1246120923 n Tr 16) is attached with a sermon by Rev.Ratsefola and translated by Rev. E.A.W.Weber DD.

We are grateful for the support by the Lutheran Heritage Foundation for their ongoing support, enabling the distribution of these orders as hard copies to those, who want them.

ILC world conference:4th day

Another day has approached.
Like always breakfast was a good time to visit with friends and brothers.
President Egon Kopereck of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brazil is giving a presentation on the workings in his Church. Fascinating how this Church has grown from strength to strength in the past decades. Very impressive is not only his confidence, but also enthusiasm for missions and outreach with the Christian gospel.
The morning devotion was led by Rev Franklin Hays from the AALC (?), while Dr Bugbee played the piano like the true virtuoso he is. His stories of pastors, presidents and other teachers and scribes trying to make bricks was very impressive – and unforgettable his episode on the marines in dilemma right in the EA conflict in Vietnam: “my ammo is running out” and “I am coming”. The chapel really does put Mother Mary in your face, but there was a crucifix and many other biblical images.
Now it is Rev. Genivaldo Agner from Portugal giving the area report on his mission field in Lisbon. Very enthusiastic and moving too. These Portugese people have a friendly and very sympathetic way of doing things. Very encouraging.
Just now we are going to drive out with busses into the country side along lake Ontario. This is a day long story and afterwards, we’re to meet with some friends to talk on the way forward for them in partnership with LTS. Let’s see, where that takes us.
