IMG_0811Then the heathen that are left round about you shall know that I the LORD build the ruined places, and plant that that was desolate: I the LORD have spoken it, and I will do it. (Eze 36:36 KJV) and Jesus prayed: I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one– I in them and you in me– so that they may be brought to complete unity. Lutheran Order of service in isiZulu/seTswana

CapernaumThe Lutheran Order of Service for the 3rd Sunday in Epiphany is available here in isiZulu and seTswana. Today it comes with a sermon based on God’s word from the Acts of the Apostles recorded by the evangelist St. Luke in the tenth chapter the verses 21-35 written by missionary Peter Webe (LC in Ohlangeni, KZN) in isiZulu (wz1412140126 n Epi 3) and translated as usual seTswana (wt1412140126 Epi 3) by my father Rev. E.A.W.Weber DD (Welbedacht, KZN).

The readings for this Sunday are:

Old Testament:       2 Kings 5: (1-8) 9-15 (16-18) 19a

The Epistle:            Romans 1: (14-15) 16-17

The Gospel:            Matthew 8:5-13

The liturgical colour is green.

May you have a very blessed weekend and have time to meditate on the watchword for this week: People will come from east and west and north and south, and will take their places at the feast in the kingdom of God. (Luk 13:29 NIV)

If you are called to preach this weekend, may the triune God give you joy and strength, enthusiasm and wisdom, knowledge and insight – and the true words and pictures to preach his holy will faithfully according to his most precious revelation of his will and promises in both the Old and New Testament! However if you are not preaching, but listening – then listen as if God is talking to you + His precious gospel is “the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes.” (Rom 1:16 NIV)

We thank the Lutheran Heritage Foundation for supporting the distribution of hard-copies of these orders of worship and sermons throughout Southern Africa. If you also want a copy please do not hesitate to subscribe by writing to EAWWeber@bundunet.co.za.

Doxology IV in Pretoria

MakosiThe Doxology workshop with Professors Dr. Harold Senkbeil and Dr. Beverly Yahnke (http://doxology.us/) ended on a high note at St. Pauls Lutheran Church with a divine service held in isiZulu, seTswana and English. Epiphany Hymns, liturgy and songs for the Lord’s supper were sung from the Kopelo, Incwadi yokuhlabelela (2; 43; 79) and the Lutheran Hymnal (129, 130; 133 & 533). The readings were from Psalm 16, 1-11; Isaiah 44,1-8 and Matthew 17, 1-8, while the sermon was on the watchword for 2014 from Psalm 73:28:

While many pastors took to the road after tee and some light refreshments, the Church Council of the LCSA started its first regular sitting in 2014 with various reports, notifications and issues occupying the agenda throughout the day. Before going to the soccer game between Kaiser Chiefs & Mamelodi Sundowns everybody relaxed at supper over in the bishop’s place, where we had a lovely time in good company and under the lovely South African skies – even though we couldn’t see the Southern Cross at that time.

Now the pastors are on their way back home and our friends from Doxology are nearly ready to take on the long flight back home. May God bless the travels with his protection and gracious care +

Doxology III in Pretoria

DSC_0007Meeting in Pretoria is fun. The weather is good, so is the accommodation at the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Tshwane and we even have access to St. Paul’s Lutheran Churches facilities in case our space is just a wee bit limited for the size of the conference.

Throughout the 2nd day of our pastor’s conference Professors Senkbeil and Yahnke (http://doxology.us/) led us into the serious issues of the following topics: “The silent epidemic: Compassion fatigue”; “Out of the depths: Sadness, dispair and recovery”; “Depression, dysfunction and despair”; “Lead us not into temptation: Sexual misconduct”; and “Deliver us from evil: A Christ-centered strategy for exposing and fighting the devil’s schemes”.

The devotions framing the proceedings were led by Dean Thwala and pastor Sibanyoni from KZN in the morning and by Dean Danisa and Prof. Senkbeil in the evening. At noon we had prayed the Litany together and the evening came to a close with an exhortation from Prof. Dr. John W. Kleinig on the “Joy of the ministry”.

Doxology: 2nd Day

DSC_0600Dean Vilakazi started off the 2nd day of our Doxology conference with a morning devotion in St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Arcadia. The church bell was ringing out loud and clear as the city was getting to work. At the working sessions we use a cow-bell from Botswana, which seems to be something of an institution at Doxology all over.

Dr. Senkbeil lectured on the following topics during the morning session “Shepherding Souls: The classic model for the care of souls in contemporary practice” and “A noble task: A Christ-centered paradigm for pastoral self-care”, while Dr. Yahnke continued in the early afternoon with “Pastoral ethics and spiritual care” before handing back to Dr. Senkbeil to deal with “Authority vs Power: the pastoral Pitfall”. Together they presented the Seminary and Church with the latest Festschrift for Dr. John W. Kleinig: “You, my people, shall be holy” and gave an short insight into the website of Doxology at http://doxology.us/

In the evening Dean Tsimako from Botswana lead the devotion with a meditation on Psalm 4:8, before we split up into small groups of 5-8 to discuss various case studies from our diverse backgrounds and pastoral experiences. Both professors Senkbeil and Yahnke then commented and illustrated the final joint-sitting in St.Timothy’s. This brought the days proceedings to a thoughtful ending.
