Mercy triumphs over judgment! (Jam 2:13 NIV)

This coming Sunday many Lutherans in Europe celebrate Thanksgiving. However here in Southern Africa, where spring is quickly making room for summer we follow the propers for the 18th Sunday after Trinity. The watchword is from the first epistle of St. John in the fourth chapter: “Whoever loves God must also love his brother.” (1Jo 4:21 NIV)

The readings for the day are from the Old Testament: Ex.20,1-17 (10 Commandments); and the New Testament Epistle: Rom.14,17-19 (Peace & mutual edification) and Gospel: Mk.12,28-34 (Most important commandment).

The sermon by Rev. E.A.W.Weber DD is based on James 2, 1-13 (Mercy overcomes Judgement) and is available here in isiZulu (wz1248121007 n Tr 18) and seTswana (wt1248121007 n Tr 18). We are grateful for the support from the Lutheran Heritage Foundation (LHF), who finance the distribution of these sermons as hard-copies. As Pastor Mntambo invited me to preach at the service of the various FELSiSA congregations joining in worship at the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Tshwane here’s that sermon too (James 2,1-13 18aT 2012).

Have a very blessed weekend!
