Order of Lutheran worship

Praise him, all his angels; praise him, all his hosts! (Psa 148:2 ESV)

Tomorrow we celebrate the holiday of St. Michael’s and all angels. This holiday has the watchword from Psalm 34 verse 7: “The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him.”

Even if this holiday can determine the propers and theme of the worship service on Sunday, the coming 17th Sunday after Trinity has the watchword from the 1st letter of St. John in the fifth chapter verse four: “And this is the victory that has overcome the world– our faith.” The Old Testament reading is from the prophet Isaiah 49,1-6; the New Testament reading from the letters is from Romans 10,9-17 (18) while the gospel is from the apostle and evangelist St. Matthew 15,21-28.

The sermon is based on the Old Testament reading is was written in isiZulu by Pastor P.C. Weber (Ohlangeni Lutheran Church in KwaZulu/Natal) and translated as usual by my father Rev. E.A.W.Weber DD into seTswana. Here is the sermon for this coming Sunday in isiZulu (wz1247120930 n Tr 17) and seTswana (wt1247120930 n Tr 17)

We are grateful to the ongoing support of the Lutheran Heritage Foundation that supports the distribution of hard-copies of these sermons throughout Southern Africa.
