Russia and Italy exchange religious art

Moscow (ENInews)–The Russian Orthodox and Roman Catholic churches are sometimes at odds on issues ranging from church leadership to theology, but an exchange between Moscow and Florence shows that they have common ground in art. The exhibits, called “In Christ,” are on display at Moscow’s State Tretyakov Gallery and at Florence’s Baptistery, the historic octagonal building next to the Duomo cathedral, constructed to host baptisms. Two masterpieces by the early Renaissance artist Giotto, the Madonna and Child and ten-panel St. Reparata Polyptych, which have never been to Russia before, came to Moscow. In turn, three icons from the Tretyakov, including one connected to Andrei Rublev, Russia’s most famous iconographer, went to Italy. [359 words, ENI-12-0051]

Herr, wir danken Dir für an Schrift und Luthersiches Bekenntnis gebundene theologische Ausbildungsstätten in unseren Kirchen in vielen Ländern. Herr, sende Arbeiter in Deine Ernte! Herr, lass uns überzeugt sein, dass Du, wenn Du Arbeiter in Deine Ernte sendest, auch für ihre schrift- und bekenntnisgemäße Ausbildung und für spätere Verwendung in deinem Dienst sorgen wirst, auch für den den Umständen entsprechenden Einsatz sorgen und für den zeitgemäßen nötigen Unterhalt für die  Arbeiter die Hände in den unions-, staats und weltbundfreien Lutherischen Kirchen  öffnen wirst. Herr, in Deiner Gnade sorge für eine schrift- und bekenntnismäßige Ausbildung an allen Lutherischen theologischen Ausbildungsstätten, gerade auch am LTS in Tshwane und schenke die nötigen Mittel, dass die Arbeit, die da getan werden muss, auch getan werden kann. Today on the 3rd Sunday after Epiphany the miraculous healing of the general Naaman from Syria is the sermon topic according to the lectionary of the VELKD used also by the sister churches SELK, FELSiSA and LCSA.

We are grateful for the orders of service and also the sermons provided by the generous support of the Lutheran Heritage Foundation. Today the sermon was written by Rev. F.Mtshali and translated as usual by Rev. E.A.W.Weber DD.
