2.Petrus 3,14

Bagster’s Daily Light: Thursday the 13th September

If any man thirst, let him come unto me …

On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. 1

My soul longs, yes, faints for the courts of the LORD; my heart and flesh sing for joy to the living God. 2

A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah. O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, beholding your power and glory. 3

“Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. 4

The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price. 5

but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” 6

For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. 7

I came to my garden, my sister, my bride, I gathered my myrrh with my spice, I ate my honeycomb with my honey, I drank my wine with my milk. Eat, friends, drink, and be drunk with love! 8

Unser Leben währet siebzig Jahre, und wenn’s hoch kommt, so sind’s achtzig Jahre, und was daran köstlich scheint, ist doch nur vergebliche Mühe. Psalm 90,10

Bagster’s Light for Wednesday morning of the 12th September

September 12, 2012 – Wednesday Morning

I have seen his ways, and will heal him.

I have seen his ways, but I will heal him; I will lead him and restore comfort to him and his mourners, 1

saying, “If you will diligently listen to the voice of the LORD your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, your healer.” 2

To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. O LORD, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. 3

You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence. 4

And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account. 5

“Come now, let us reason together, says the LORD: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool. 6

and he is merciful to him, and says, ‘Deliver him from going down into the pit; I have found a ransom; 7

But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. 8

The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; 9

And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.” 10

Siehe, es ist kein Wort auf meiner Zunge, das du, HERR, nicht schon wüsstest. Psalm 139,4

Bagster’s Daily Light for September 11, 2012 – Tuesday Morning

Be not conformed to this world …

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. 1

You shall not fall in with the many to do evil, nor shall you bear witness in a lawsuit, siding with the many, so as to pervert justice, 2

You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. 3

Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? What accord has Christ with Belial? Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever? What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said, “I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 4

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever. 5

in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience– 6

But that is not the way you learned Christ!– assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus, 7

NEW INTER-DISCIPLINARY MA PROGRAMME STARTING 2013

An exciting new inter- and trans-disciplinary MA programme in African-European Cultural Relations is being launched by the Faculty of Humanities under the leadership of the Department of Modern European Languages at the beginning of 2013.
