Then Jesus took the twelve aside and said to them:
Look, we are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written about the Son of Man by the prophets will be accomplished.
Luke 18,31
Introit
In you, O Lord, I have taken shelter. Never let me be humiliated. Vindicate me by rescuing me. Listen to me. Quickly deliver me. Be my protector and refuge, a stronghold where I can be safe.
For you are my high ridge and my stronghold; for the sake of your own reputation you lead me and guide me.
You will free me from the net they hid for me, for you are my place of refuge.
Into your hand I entrust my life; you will rescue me, O Lord, the faithful God.
I hate those who serve worthless idols, but I trust in the Lord.I will be happy and rejoice in your faithfulness, because you notice my pain and you are aware of how distressed I am.
You do not deliver me over to the power of the enemy; you enable me to stand in a wide open place. You determine my destiny. Rescue me from the power of my enemies and those who chase me.
Smile on your servant. Deliver me because of your faithfulness.
Psalm 31,2ff.8f.16f

Old Testament reading
I absolutely despise your festivals! I get no pleasure from your religious assemblies.
Even if you offer me burnt and grain offerings,I will not be satisfied; I will not look with favor on your peace offerings of fattened calves. Take away from me your noisy songs; I don’t want to hear the music of your stringed instruments.
Justice must flow like torrents of water, righteous actions like a stream that never dries up. Indeed you will go out with joy; you will be led along in peace;
the mountains and hills will give a joyful shout before you, and all the trees in the field will clap their handsAmos 5,21-24
Epistle
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but I do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith so that I can remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give away everything I own, and if I give over my body in order to boast, but do not have love, I receive no benefit.
Love is patient, love is kind, it is not envious. Love does not brag, it is not puffed up.It is not rude, it is not self-serving, it is not easily angered or resentful. It is not glad about injustice, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never ends. But if there are prophecies, they will be set aside; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be set aside. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part, but when what is perfectcomes, the partial will be set aside. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. But when I became an adult, I set aside childish ways. For now we see in a mirror indirectly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know in part, but then I will know fully, just as I have been fully known. And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.
1. Corinthians 13
Holy Gospel
Then Jesus began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and experts in the law, and be killed, and after three days rise again. He spoke openly about this. So Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him.But after turning and looking at his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind me, Satan. You are not setting your mind on God’s interests, but on man’s.” Then Jesus called the crowd, along with his disciples, and said to them, “If anyone wants to become my follower, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life because of me and because of the gospel will save it. For what benefit is it for a person to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his life? What can a person give in exchange for his life? For if anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.”
Mark 8,31-38
The Christian Creed
I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end.
And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of Life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets.
And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Hymn for Estomihi
Let us ever walk with Jesus, follow his example pure, flee the world which would deceive us and to sin our souls allure. Ever in his footsteps treading, body here, yet soul above, full of faith and hope and love, let us do the Father’s bidding. Faithful Lord, abide with me; Savior, lead; I follow thee.
Let us suffer here with Jesus, to his image e’er conform; heaven’s glory soon will please us, sunshine follow on the storm. Though we sow in tears of sorrow, we shall reap in heav’nly joy, and the fears that now annoy shall be laughter on the morrow. Christ, I suffer here with thee; there, O share thy joy with me.
Let us also die with Jesus; his death from the second death, from our soul’s destruction, frees us, quickens us with life’s glad breath. Let us mortify, while living, flesh and blood and die to sin, and the grave that shuts us in shall but prove the gate to heaven. Jesus, here I die to thee, there to live eternally.
Let us gladly live with Jesus; since he’s risen from the dead, death and grave must soon release us. Jesus, thou art now our head. We are truly thine own members, where thou livest, there live we; take and own us constantly, faithful Friend, as thy dear brethren. Jesus, here I live to thee, also there eternally.
Sermon for Estomihi
Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him as a guest. She had a sister named Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to what he said. But Martha was distracted with all the preparations she had to make, so she came up to him and said, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do all the work alone? Tell her to help me.” But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things, but one thing is needed. Mary has chosen the best part; it will not be taken away from her.”
Luke 10,38-42
My sermon:
Church Prayer
Let us pray for the whole Church of God in Christ Jesus and for all people according to their needs.
O Lover of the human race, have compassion on Your baptized children. Renew us by Your Holy Spirit, that our lives would reflect the unfailing love we have in Christ, our Savior. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Almighty and most merciful God, You urge Your Church to be strong and fear not. Inspire us to trust Your just judgment and expect the renewal of this world. Strengthen our hands and knees to pray without ceasing and to perform the works You have prepared for us. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Heavenly Father, grant grace to Your people in their many and various vocations. Give them patience, and strengthen them in their Christian witness to the world and in service to their neighbor. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
O Lord, You see in secret. You chose David, least among his brothers, to rule in Your kingdom. Put down the proud and exult the humble to rule in our land, that we also may receive leaders who rule with integrity and humility after Your own heart. We pray for Friedrich Merz together with elected parties as they constitute our new government. Grant wisdom, courage and fortitude, but also the necessary means, capacity and insight to do, what is needful and good. We pray for Vladimir Zelensky and those elected leaders who defend law and order, justice and freedom against corruption, injustice, tyranny, terror, violence, insurrection and unjust war. Lord have mercy on us all. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Great Physician, You promise eternal healing for all who look to You in faith. Until that day when all struggles are relieved, bestow health and support on Your people [especially Helmut Keitel, Thomas Schmidt, Annett Glaubig, Sylvia Kleeblatt, Paulina Richter, Christoph and June Johnson]. Strengthen us to live our days in peace according to Your holy and gracious will. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, You gather us to this altar to receive His sacrificial banquet, where the humble are exalted and no arrogant heart is welcome. Forgive our sins for His sake, and bestow upon us who seek no worldly satisfaction this humble yet royal gift. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Lord God, heavenly Father, what You foretold through the holy prophets has been fulfilled and accomplished in the suffering, death and resurrection of Your Son. You have set forth His Passion and resurrection as the firm foundation and content for our faith. Have mercy on us, and fix our eyes on the Son of David at all times. Give us courage to follow Him through all adversity and every assault of the devil and to view His Passion with repentant hearts and delight, for by it You have redeemed us from all sin and evil. Comfort us with the certainty of Christ’s resurrection, by which we have the confidence of eternal life; through the same Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
