Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits

Psalm 103,2

Introit

Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord, O my soul. I will praise the Lord as long as I live. I will sing praises to my God as long as I exist. Do not trust in princes, or in human beings, who cannot deliver. Their life’s breath departs, they return to the ground. On that day their plans die.

How blessed is the one whose helper is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God, the one who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, who remains forever faithful, vindicates the oppressed, and gives food to the hungry.

The Lord releases the imprisoned. The Lord gives sight to the blind. The Lord lifts up all who are bent over. The Lord loves the godly. The Lord protects the resident foreigner. He lifts up the fatherless and the widow, but he opposes the wicked. The Lord rules forever, your God, O Zion, throughout the generations to come. Praise the Lord!

Psalm 146,1-10

Old Testament lesson

Meanwhile Jacob left Beer Sheba and set out for Haran. He reached a certain place where he decided to camp because the sun had gone down. He took one of the stones and placed it near his head. Then he fell asleep in that place and had a dream. He saw a stairway erected on the earth with its top reaching to the heavens. The angels of God were going up and coming down itand the Lord stood at its top. He said, “I am the Lord, the God of your grandfather Abraham and the God of your father Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the ground you are lying on. Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west, east, north, and south. And so all the families of the earth may receive blessings through you and through your descendants. I am with you! I will protect you wherever you go and will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I promised you!” Then Jacob woke up and thought, “Surely the Lord is in this place, but I did not realize it!” He was afraid and said, “What an awesome place this is! This is nothing else than the house of God! This is the gate of heaven!” Early in the morning Jacob took the stone he had placed near his head and set it up as a sacred stone. Then he poured oil on top of it. He called that place Bethel, although the former name of the town was Luz. Then Jacob made a vow, saying, “If God is with me and protects me on this journey I am taking and gives me food to eat and clothing to wear, and I return safely to my father’s home, then the Lord will become my God.Then this stone that I have set up as a sacred stone will be the house of God, and I will surely give you back a tenth of everything you give me.”

Genesis 28,10-22

Epistle

For all who are led by the Spirit of God are the sons of God.For you did not receive the spirit of slavery leading again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself bears witness to our spirit that we are God’s children. And if children, then heirs (namely, heirs of God and also fellow heirs with Christ) —if indeed we suffer with him so we may also be glorified with him. For I consider that our present sufferings cannot even be compared to the coming glory that will be revealed to us

Romans 8,14-17

Holy Gospel

Now on the way to Jerusalem, Jesus was passing along between Samaria and Galilee. As he was entering a village, ten men with leprosy met him. They stood at a distance, raised their voices and said, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.” When he saw them he said, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went along, they were cleansed. Then one of them, when he saw he was healed, turned back, praisingGod with a loud voice. He fell with his face to the ground at Jesus’ feet and thanked him. (Now he was a Samaritan.) Then Jesus said, “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? Was no one found to turn back and give praise to God except this foreigner?”Then he said to the man, “Get up and go your way. Your faith has made you well.”

Luke 17,11-19

Hymn of the week

From God can nothing move me; He will not step aside
But gently will reprove me And be my constant guide.
He stretches out His hand In evening and in morning,
My life with grace adorning Wherever I may stand.

When those whom I regarded As trustworthy and sure
Have long from me departed, God’s grace shall still endure.
He rescues me from sin And breaks the chains that bind me.
I leave death’s fear behind me; His peace I have within.

The Lord my life arranges; Who can His work destroy?
In His good time He changes All sorrows into joy.
So let me then be still My body. Soul, and spirit
His tender care inherit According to His will.

Each day at His good pleasure God’s gracious will is done.
He sent His greatest treasure In Jesus Christ, His Son.
He ev’ry gift imparts. The bread of earth and heaven
Are by His kindness given. Praise Him with thankful hearts!

Praise God with acclamation And in His gifts rejoice.
Each day finds its vocation Responding to His voice.
Soon years on earth are past; But time we spend expressing
The love of God brings blessing That will forever last!

Yet even though I suffer The world’s unpleasantness,
And though the day’s grow rougher And bring me great distress,
That day of bliss divine, Which knows no end or measure,
And Christ, who is my pleasure, Forever shall be mine.

For thus the Father willed it, Who fashioned us from clay;
And His own Son fulfilled it And brought eternal day.
The Spirit now has come, To us true faith has given;
He leads us home to heaven. O praise the Three in One!

Christian Creed

I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of Life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets.

And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Church prayer for this Sunday

Let us pray for the whole Church of God in Christ Jesus and for all people according to their needs.

Heavenly Father, You have had mercy upon us by sending Your only begotten Son to atone for our sins on the cross. Grant that we may receive Your forgiveness, life and salvation with thanksgiving. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.

Lord of hosts, You have prepared the Church of Christ to be a lovely court in the midst of a troubled world. Form our hearts to long for the place where Your glory dwells, that we may find healing and peace at His feet. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.

Father of all, hear us on behalf of the fathers in Your Church. Impart to them the boldness of Solomon to exhort their sons in wisdom and justice, that they would persist in the way of salvation. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.

Almighty God, grant Your protection upon our land and people. Deliver us from violence and discord. Grant safety to all who work to bring peace to our land, including those in law enforcement and members of the armed forces. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.

God of comfort, heal the sick, hospitalized and recovering, especially Ingrid, Karin, Christoph, Annette, Paulina, Hilary and strengthen them to endure their afflictions. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.

Good Lord, Your Son instituted the salutary gift of the Lord’s Supper. Send Your blessing upon all who receive the body and blood of Jesus for their forgiveness. Grant thankful hearts that praise Your name to all who receive the Sacrament this day. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.

Gracious God, Your Son once healed 10 lepers, only one of whom returned to give thanks. As we celebrate the harvest and Your blessings to us, forgive our shallow gratitude and our lack of humility before Your generosity, and create right hearts within us to give You all glory, honor and praise. In the name and for the sake of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

+ Dominum vobiscum +

The Lord bless You, and keep You; The Lord make His face shine upon You, and be gracious unto You; The Lord lift up His countenance upon You + give You peace.

Numbers 6,24-27

If you are called to preach this weekend, may the holy, triune God – Father, Son and Holy Spirit – the one true and only God give You His rich measure of faith, hope, love, joy and strength, wisdom, knowledge and insight, clarity of speech, that You preach His holy Will faithfully and His gracious Promises invitingly and faithfully according to His biblical Word recorded by apostles and prophets. His most precious Gospel grants saving grace. It is His “power to save.” (Rom 1:16 cf. 2.Corinthians 12,9).

God´s Word and Luther´s teaching remain forever just as His, holy Christian Church. Hallelujah + Amen. Amen.
