Obituary for Ben Mathibe Mokopanele (Ps.147,3)

At the funeral of our long-time student representative at the Lutheran Theological Semianary in Tshwane the rector was absent and so was his representative. So the MC asked me to say a few words in  commemoration of the deceased, who passed away on the 13th of this month and was buried on the 19th. I gladly complied, because he was special to the Seminary, to our church and also to me personally – a good friend and true brother. He had shown us the best of the Lutheran Church in Southern Africa and we surely miss him. It is as the venerable prophet says of our God and Lord IX: “Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.” (Is.53,12). I aimed at the daily reading from Psalm 147:3 “He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.”
