What a delightful evening. Professor Dr. Schulz presented a paper on “Pain, Suffering, Lament” at yesterday’s meeting of the Theological Society of SA / Dogmatologiese Werkgemeenskap. As the political situation at the University of Pretoria is tense, the chairman of the society Professor Daniël P Veldsman, the head of the Department of Dogmatics and Christian Ethics of the Faculty of Theology invited the members and some interested guests to his home up in Rietondale for the evening. After formal introductions of Professor Schulz and his wife Paula, the presentation got underway and was followed by a lively discussion of his thoughtful argumentation differentiating Pain and Suffering and pointing to Lament as a God-given expression of our “No” to the fallenness of our being this side of paradise. The comfortable setting and the gracious hospitality of the chairman rounded off a nearly perfect evening.
