St. Francis of Assisi +1226

St. Francis of Assisi

Today the Church commemorates the death of St. Fracis of Assisi, who died in 1226 after he had founded the Franciscan order in Italy. Martin Luther held this saint of the church in high regard as did Karleman Beyschlag – mainly because of his faith in the gospel and also good example in Christian works of mercy especially amongst the poor and those suffering from leprosy. As St. Francis himself says: “Before my conversion there was nothing as repulsive as leprosy, but afterwards they were sweeter than honey!” Talk about turning ones world around and upside down.
